It is with profound sadness, but with complete conviction in the faithfulness of God Almighty that we announce the transition of Lois “Mama Lois” Banks Johnson, mother of our beloved General Secretary, Dr. Iva E. Carruthers and, indeed, the entire SDPC family. Mama Lois was a recipient of the Beautiful Are The Feet Award in 2012 and was a tireless volunteer and mentor for the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference from its inception until almost two weeks ago.
On Father’s Day, Sunday, June 18, 2017, Mama Lois made a peaceful transition as she took her Father’s hand and crossed the River Jordan to join the ancestors. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 400 W. 95th St., Chicago, IL, Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr., Officiant, Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III, Senior Pastor. Family hour and visitation, 10:00 a.m. and the Celebration of Life will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Sunset Memorial Lawns, 3100 Shermer Road, Northbrook, IL.
Repast will be held at the South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 S. South Shore Drive, Chicago at 3:30 p.m. The Center is handicap accessible.
In light of her commitment to education and Christian discipleship, in lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to:

The Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference, Inc.
We ask that the SDPC community hold Dr. Carruthers and her family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of their beloved matriarch.
