“The news of the death of Nelson Mandela brings forth the memory of his visit to The Riverside Church in New York City following his release from jail in 1990…for all those gathered, his loving presence with us and his encouragement to continue the search for justice was an inspiring gift that led us on.
Nelson returned again to The Riverside Church in 1995 carrying in his heart abundant thanks for the many ways the congregation had served the cause of equality and dignity for all of creation. His life and steadfastness for the good of all can never be forgotten. I pray that his death brings to our hearts and minds all that one man dedicated in respectful actions can accomplish on behalf of others. May his memory live on in the hearts of each of us and all that we do to serve those whose way is fraught with injustice and intolerance.
Godspeed Nelson as you go forward into the heavens and are received by the One who gave you life.
May you now Rest in Peace, my Brother.”
