Samuel DeWitt Proctor Commemorates The 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington
50 college students participate in Samuel DeWitt Proctor’s Living Legacies Civil Rights Recognition Tour and Teach-Ins.
A key goal of the program was to reaffirm the key role that the faith community, students and labor played in shaping the movement. The “Teach-In” component of this anniversary commemoration was designed to engage students and veteran activists in inter-generational dialogues. The Teach-In sessions were rooted in the tradition of training that influenced many leaders of the movement including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Ralph Abernathy and John Lewis.
