The Transatlantic Roundtable on Religion and Race (TRRR), will bring together academics, church leaders, students, and community activists to explore the role that churches play in the construction of identities in societies where issues of race and ethnicity are played out in the public sphere.
Approximately fifty panelists from the U.K., France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Nigeria, South Africa, Canada, and the U.S. will present papers on various topics related to the role that churches play in the construction of identities in societies where issues of race and racism are played out in the public sphere.
Dr. Carruthers, Dr. Drew Smith of the U.S. and Dr. Allan Boesak of South Africa are a few of the conveners of the TRRR. They will be joined by Tiauna Boyd, Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Dr. Forrest Harris and others as a part of the SDPC delegation and participants. During the conference they will be presenting a panel on mass incarceration in the U.S. At a community forum at the House of Lords, Dr. Carruthers will be speaking with others from England to compare the intersection of immigration and hyper-incarceration in the two countries.
Dr. Iva E. Carruthers is a social justice and policy advocate and activist. She is the general secretary of the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference.
