A Message From Our General Secretary

Dear Sister and Brother Sojourner,

The Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference is strengthening its coalition of faith leaders and churches willing to stand up for what is right, speak truth to power and nurture future leaders to do the same. We continue to look up and look out as we seek to bring factual information to our people. We continue to look up and look out as we advocate for justice and real change with and through other people and organizations. And, we continue to look up and look out as we stand with courage and conviction as we actively make our voices heard in the public square.

This is the age of change and more than ever, our communities need the strength of coalition that has been born through the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference. In every generation there are those willing to speak truth to power in hopes that they their voices will make a difference.
But, as Frederick Douglas proclaimed, “If there is no struggle there is no progress…. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.”

As we celebrate our seventh year, we are excited about the 2010 conference and hope you will join us as we continue the challenging work of bringing good news in the midst of bad times.

We need your support. We remain….

Still on the journey,

Dr. Iva E. Carruthers
